About
A Legacy of Vision, Art, and Excellence Acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most celebrated names in global fine wine. Driven by the legendary ambition of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Mouton achieved the historically unprecedented reclassification from Second Growth to Premier Grand Cru Classé (First Growth) in 1973—a feat captured by his famous motto: "First I cannot be, second I do not deign to be, Mouton I am." Today, the estate remains under the family's stewardship, guided by Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. Mouton Rothschild stands apart for its theatrical flair and uncompromising quality. Planted on the sunniest gravel plateaus, it provides muscular body, firm tannic backbone, dark cassis fruit, and signature notes of roasted coffee and exotic spice. Merlot (~15%): Grown on cooler clay-gravel plots to deliver opulent flesh, roundness, velvet texture, and mid-palate richness. Cabernet Franc (~3%) & Petit Verdot (~1%): Adds aromatic finesse, delicate floral top-notes, vibrant pepper spice, and dark color density. In the spectacular gravity-fed vat room, plot-by-plot vinification occurs in large oak and stainless steel vats. The Grand Vin matures for 18 to 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels, building incredible depth, seam
