About
The Undisputed Titan of Old-Vine Burgundy Located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Dugat-Py is one of the most revered and sought-after producers in all of Burgundy. Tracing its winemaking roots back to the 17th century, the estate in its modern form was shaped by Bernard Dugat and his wife Chantal Py. Today, under the guidance of their son Loïc Dugat, the domaine operates out of the historic Aumônerie du Dîme —a magnificent 11th-century vaulted cellar built by Cistercian monks. Dugat-Py is globally celebrated for crafting Pinot Noir of extraordinary concentration, structure, and aging potential. The secret to their distinctively intense style lies in their incredible vineyard holdings: dominated by ancient Vieilles Vignes (many over 65 to 100+ years old) that produce naturally microscopic yields of small, thick-skinned berries. Unfiltered, highly structured, and deeply terroir-driven, these wines represent the ultimate synergy of traditional power and organic finesse. Viticultural Excellence & Winemaking Philosophy Ancient Vines & Micro-Yields: The domaine's average vine age exceeds 65 years across its parcels. These deep-rooted old vines yield tiny clusters that give the wines their signature pitch-black color, dense extract, and monumental tannin profile. 100% Organic & Biodynamic Farming: Certified organic since 2003, the vineyards are worked entirely by hand and horse-plowed to preserve soil structure and promote living vineyard biodiversity. Whole-Cluster & Oak Maturation: Winemaking incorporates a high percentage of whole-bunch fermentation to impart lift, floral aromatics, and structural freshness. Aging takes place in custom oak barrels (often 100% new oak for Grand Crus) in their subterranean 11th-century cellars, yielding dark fruit, licorice, game, and graphite complexity.
