About

The Pioneer of Ultra-Premium Luxury Tequila Founded in 1942 by a 17-year-old Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada in the red clay soil of Atotonilco El Alto, Don Julio Tequila fundamentally redefined the world's perception of agave spirits. Prioritizing craft quality over mass volume, Don Julio introduced wider plant spacing for healthier crops, selective hand-harvesting, and shorter, squatter bottle designs so guests could see each other across the dinner table without their view being obstructed. Operating out of its historic La Primavera distillery in the Los Altos (Highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico, Don Julio crafts 100% Blue Weber Agave tequilas. Slow-cooked in traditional masonry brick ovens and double-distilled in small-batch copper pot stills, the portfolio captures the vibrant citrus and sweet cooked-agave richness unique to high-altitude Highland terroir. Craftsmanship & Production Standards 100% Highland Blue Weber Agave: Grown for 6 to 7+ years in the nutrient-dense red clay soil of Los Altos de Jalisco. High elevations yield agave hearts ( piñas ) packed with natural sugars and crisp citrus top-notes. Brick-Oven Slow Cooking: Harvested piñas are steam-cooked for 72 hours in traditional brick hornos, slowly converting starches into fermentable sugars while preserving sweet cooked-agave flavors. Proprietary Fermentation & Double Distillation: Fermented with a proprietary yeast strain developed by Don Julio himself, followed by precise double distillation in small copper pot stills to isolate pure heart-cut spirit. Core Expressions & Portfolio Highlights Don Julio Blanco: The unaged baseline spirit. Crisp, clean, and vibrant, featuring fresh agave, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and subtle black pepper spice. Don Julio Reposado: Aged for 8 months in American white oak ex-bourbon casks (exceeding the standard 2-month minimum). Golden-amber in color with soft vanilla, dried fruit, dark caramel, and gentle oak warmth. Don Julio Añejo: Aged for 18 month
