Bridging Two Worlds of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay For more than 140 years, the name Drouhin has been synonymous with the absolute pinnacle of Burgundian wine elegance. But what truly sets this legendary family apart is their pioneering, cross-continental vision. In the late 1980s, the family looked beyond the historic hills of the Côte d'Or and took a historic leap of faith across the Atlantic, becoming the first French family to invest seriously in the volcanic slopes of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Today, the fourth generation—siblings Frédéric, Laurent, Philippe, and Véronique—runs a dual-continent wine empire where centuries of French heritage seamlessly blend with the vibrant spirit of Pacific Northwest innovation. I. The Burgundian Cradle: Maison Joseph Drouhin Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s most respected historic estates. With deep subterranean cellars running beneath the ancient Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France, the estate manages some of the region's most prized vineyards: Clos des Mouches: A legendary Premier Cru in Beaune purchased by the family in the 19th century. It produces both exceptional, mineral-rich whites and silky, perfumed reds. Drouhin-Vaudon (Chablis): Centered around an 18th-century watermill in Chablis, this brand captures the chiseled, mineral, and oyster-shell core of northern Chardonnay. A Commitment to Organic and Biodynamic Farming: Guided by viticulturist Philippe Drouhin, the entire Burgundy estate shifted entirely to organic and biodynamic practices, obtaining official organic certification in 2009. II. The American Frontier: Domaine Drouhin Oregon & Roserock In 1987, third-generation patriarch Robert Drouhin bought land in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley.
