Rigid casters , or sometimes also called fixed casters , do not contain a swivel raceway and are typically used on one side (or middle) of a cart to provide steering capabilities when used in combination with swivel casters . Rigid casters consist of a formed or welded fork (typically steel) and a wheel that is held in place by an axle and nut. Typically, rigid casters are available in plate mount only–although special stem mount rigid casters can be ordered by special order (larger minimums apply).
