Teak coffee tables age differently to every other material we stock, and that is the point of choosing one. How teak behaves A-Grade teak is the outer heartwood of a mature tree, cut when the natural oil content is at its highest. Left outdoors untreated the surface oxidises and settles to an even silver-grey over about eighteen months. The change is roughly 0.1 mm deep — the density, the strength and the joinery are unaffected. Oiled once a year it holds the honey tone instead. Both are correct. It is a decision about how you want it to look, not about how long it lasts. Construction Quarter-sawn so the grain runs straight across the board and the timber moves evenly rather than cupping. 316 stainless fixings throughout — lesser hardware weeps rust into the timber within a couple of summers on this coast.
