The bulb, foliage, and seeds of the fennel plant are widely used in many of the culinary traditions of the world. Dried fennel seed is an aromatic, anise-flavored spice, and fennel leaves are delicately flavored and similar in shape to those of dill. Although the taste and aroma of fennel are sometimes mistaken for anise, the plant is actually related to caraway. All parts of the fennel plant are edible raw or cooked.
