Le Goût du Bonheur : Picasso’s Late-Period Celebration of Pure Joy Released in 1970, just three years before his death in 1973, Le Goût du Bonheur ( The Taste of Happiness ) stands as one of Pablo Picasso ’s most significant late-career achievements. The portfolio features 71 intimate drawings selected from the artist's personal 1964 sketchbooks , portraying caricatures of friends, self portraits in various styles, and other happy, playful, and erotic images. Created in collaboration with master printer Gunther Dietz , these works are sophisticated stencil print serigraphs . They represent a unique technique, different than Picasso's other works, that apply the original materials- charcoal, grease crayon, and lead pencil- directly to the paper, retaining the texture of the original works.
