This tasty brassica, which resembles a tiny cabbage (and is in fact related to one), needs a long season to grow to maturity, but it's well worth the wait. They're actually buds which grow on long sturdy stalks and are loads of fun to harvest and even more so to eat. Brussels sprouts are sweetest after the first frost, which makes them perfectly timed to be a healthy, home-grown holiday treat.
