Longwave UV (365 nm) brings out the most common fluorescent effects in crystals and is usually the easiest option for home use. Shortwave UV (254 nm) can reveal different colours or stronger reactions in certain minerals, but it does require a filtered shortwave lamp and extra care when handling and protecting your eyes.
