If you tow a holiday trailer down the QE2 or haul a slip tank in the box, stepping a half-ton up to LT tires adds sidewall stability and puncture resistance. If your truck is a daily commuter, the P-metric it came with is usually the better ride and the better price. A/T vs M/T vs H/T for Alberta driving H/T (highway terrain): pavement-first. Quietest, longest tread life, best fuel economy, solid in rain. The right choice if the truck lives on Deerfoot and Stoney and tows on paved highways. A/T (all-terrain): the Alberta default. Handles the gravel roads east of the city around Strathmore and Langdon, jobsite mud, and mountain highway runs to Banff and Golden. Many, like the KO3 and Open Country A/T III, carry the 3PMSF snowflake for winter mountain travel. The trade-off versus an H/T is a little more noise and a little less tread life. M/T (mud terrain): deep mud, rock and serious off-road use. Big open lugs mean real noise on the highway and faster pavement wear, so buy an M/T because you need it off-road, not for the look.
