Fly fishing for Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass requires a specific tackle setup. We like 7 weight rods with floating lines for Largemouth, and 6 weight rods and either floating or sink tip lines for smallmouth bass. Tippet should be 12# test or so because you'll encounter some snags along the way while fishing the edges of cover. Largemouth love the edges and often ambush prey near weedbeds and visible structure, while Smallmouth bass seem to prefer submerged structure and rockpiles.
