Labradorite Beads

Labradorite is a grey stone that shows blue, purple, and green colors when turned at different angles to the light. It is a form of feldspar similar to moonstone, however, moonstone is classified as orthoclase feldspar while labradorite is classified as plagioclase feldspar. This colorful display is known as adolescence but is commonly referred to as labradorescence since the display of colors is a unique trait to this stone. Labradorite stone was first discovered in Labrador, Newfoundland, of Eastern Canada in the late 1700s. Legend has it that the Northern Lights were encased inside the rock, only to be released by an ancient warrior who breaks it with a spear. Many stones were broken, allowing the Northern Lights to show in the night sky. But not all of them were broken and some of the Northern lights remain trapped inside the stone - stone that we know today as labradorite.
