Light novels are a hybrid of novels and manga. They contain pages of text (like a novel) with manga-style illustrations every few pages or so. They comprise many different genres, although Isekai light novels are very popular. Many light novels have been adapted into anime (like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Sword Art Online), and sometimes into actual manga.
